Welcome Back!

Dear SOF Families,

Welcome back to another great year at School of the Future. We hope you enjoyed your summers and had some time with family, friends, books and whatever else you find restorative. We have been working hard this summer getting the building ready for your children and are so excited to work with each of them.

We have some wonderful new staff members joining our faculty this year. We are particularly excited about this new crew and just know they’ll fit right in to our wonderful community. We are also happy to have back our veteran SOF teachers who were on leave last year. Actually SOF had 8 teachers out on maternity leave last year. They are all coming back and are excited to get back to teaching full time again.

Taylor Costas will be teaching ninth grade English. Taylor comes highly recommended from Columbia University’s Teachers College.

Lion Simkhayev will be teaching Middle School Physical Education. He is teaching this year in place of Mandy Wurtz who will be out on maternity leave.

Meghan Beck will be teaching eighth grade Science. “Megs” is an experienced teacher who was recommended to us by Naje Latailliade who she will be replacing.

Lisa Sobin will be teaching Drama the first semester while Ms. Gorelov finishes up her maternity leave. Lisa is a veteran DOE educator who was recommended by Ms. Gorelov and has created a wonderful drama curriculum for the Fall.

Miriam Goldberg will be the seventh grade Learning Specialist. Many of the incoming seventh graders will remember Miriam as she taught them Humanities the second half of last school year.

Michelle Kresi will be teaching sixth and seventh grade Movement class once a week and eighth grade second semester. This class will be a great complement to the Drama curriculum and a wonderful creative experience.

Nicole Alexander will be switching from seventh grade special education to a new position we call Literacy Support. Nicole will be working with small groups of students in grades sixth through nine focusing on raising their reading ability. Nicole is a veteran of School of the Future and an excellent teacher we are very excited about this new position.

Ashley Ordonez will be teaching 7th and 8th grade Spanish. Ashley was a beloved substitute teacher last year in our building and we couldn’t be happier to have her on full time
