Ninth graders are learning about Value, Shades & Tones in art. First, they worked on matching values (dark & lights). They used drawing and shading techniques to finish the half-face of a black & white photograph of a musician of their choosing. Then, they transferred the drawing onto a canvas using a grid. Finally, they translated the b&w values into color tones by choosing a base color and mixing either white or black paint.
