On Saturday, February 3rd, middle schoolers Saksham Thapa, Anna He, Amelia Bustamante (grade 6) and Min Lin Yang and Caleb Friedman (grade 8) competed in the Manhattan Mathcounts chapter competition at Baruch College.

Saksham won for “top competitor” at SOF.  We competed against schools such as NEST + m, Hunter, Clinton MS, and Yorkville East MS to name a few.

Fun was had by all!   We look forward to growing our team and more successes in the future.

The Earth Savers Club is SOFs sustainability group.  Pictured here are members of the club with SOFs Custodial Engineer and a lead architect from the DOE.  The Earth Savers try to think of creative solutions to help SOF become more sustainable.  Some of the projects we’re working on?  Updating the roof garden and greenhouse, making a push to replace the old windows with ones that are more energy efficient, campaigning to replace the water fountains with filtered bottle filling stations and recycling to name a few.  Contact Mrs. Deonarine in room 506/7 if you are interested in joining.
