Two teams from SOF have participated in the citywide data competition Hack League and were awarded The Metrics and Outcomes award for their app prototypes: Rat Radar( HS) and Self-Driving Taxi app ( MS). The event took place at the City Hall on March 17 and was organized by Computer Science for All & BetaNYC.
The awards reflect students’ hard work and skills on using metrics to measure the usage and impact of their app prototypes.
Our HS team consisting of seniors Violet Brachman, David Scher, Ethan Ng and Samuel Keller have impressed the audience with their teamwork, data analysis, creativity and technical complexity of the prototype.
Our seventh graders Elizabeth Appelbaum, Noe Humbert, Himamsu Subedi, Ahsanul Hoque and Devon Anderson have done a great job of crafting and presenting a prototype for addressing a local transportation issue.
The day was filled with lots of fun and students had opportunities to listen to inspiring stories from various speakers from the DOE, City Hall or technology companies.
The City Hall event was the final stage of a competition that started in the Computer Science classes in December, continued to the Borough competition in March and ended at the citywide event in April. SOF was the only NYC school that was represented at the event by two teams, one at the middle and and the other at the high school level, each on a separate track.
