High School Musical Mystery Tour

In collaboration with Children’s Museum of the Arts teaching artists, Eliza Martin and Laura Mann, Ms. Janine’s 9th grade Studio Art classes spent last fall/winter making music videos that spanned the history of Pop and Rock n’ Roll. They picked their favorite popular songs from the ’50s, ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s, and devised a concept and storyline for their video that reflected the research they did on the cultural and historical touchstones from each decade. Using Canon Rebel cameras, the students directed each scene, and mixed their live-action footage with stop-motion animated sequences in post-production, with Final Cut Pro.

Senior Institute Students Compete in Moody’s Mega Math Challenge 2015

On March 1st at SOF, Senior Institute students used their math and science skills to participate in a nationwide 12-hour competition sponsored by the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics.

They had to create a mathematical model to evaluate education choices to address the question “STEM Sells: What is higher education really worth?” They investigated how mathematical modeling can show the cost, return, and value of a college education. In the photo, from left to right, are team coach Ms. Thole, 11th graders Sheila Chiu, Kelvin Ayala, and Anastasia Krasilnikova, 10th grader Max Friedman, and 11th grader Mariam Steinblatt.
